The author had enough miles and experience hiking and exploring the Southwest region before he wrote this magnificent book. Hiking the Southwest has the best of the best hikes, and if you are planning to visit the region and would like to choose places to go, long or short hikes, climbing and exploring canyons, deserts, mountains and deep valleys, this is an excellent primer. It may be used as a hiking guide, but we would recommend additional and more detail maps to be taken along.

Excellent color pictures are a great help and the shaded text that starts each trail description contains very important information, and it will help the readers select the trails that will better suit their party. Waypoint information at the end of each chapter are for GPS users.
