is inspirational and encourages the reader to try something new, no matter how uncomfortable at first. Preston writes “This story is about change, a metamorphosis inspired by our dog, Toots. Learn to seek new places, try new things, and in the process grow in mind, spirit and emotional strength. Become empowered to take the spur trails as you encounter them on your own adventure. Unleash your inner self and enjoy the journey.” Loosing Toots is a powerful part of this book, but the ending is uplifting as it shows how Toots’ spirit influenced others long after her passing. Her legacy is apparent during her memorial walk and then with that meeting of the other hikers and their dogs on the trail.
has a master’s degree in English from San Jose State University and holds a Community College Teaching Credential. She has been hiking seriously for thirteen years. “Not only is hiking great exercise, it is a great way to see such beautiful natural sites, and fun places for swimming, picnicking, fishing and gold panning. By seeing the hike as an adventure, you will have a great experience seeing more around you rather than simply focusing on the trail and your footsteps,” she explains. “Tails” from the Trails is her third book.
